MAYBEURY WV - BRIDGE - SHAMOKIN TIPPLE - COKE OVENS
MORE INFO by BUDDY FRENCH In the left of the picture you can see a steam engine pulling cars I believe loaded with coke. It's coming from the old original wooden Norfolk Coal and Coke Company tipple located at the upper end of the Maybeury camp where the old company store was. The Norfolk/Angle Tipple had not been built at this time. I think that tipple was built in 1905 when Pocahontas Fuel bought out these coal companies. The row of company houses from the old N&W train trestle up to the tipple were not there back then. There was a row of coke ovens there then, but not the one's you see in the picture. Those are the Shamokin coke ovens. DizzyHarris1@yahoo.com E. L. Harris 1718 Hamilton St. Warren, OH 44485 |
