GARY HOLLOW A BOOK BY ALEX P. SCHUST Located in McDowell County, West Virginia, Gary Hollow is an indepth study of what was the largest coal mining operation in the world. Five years of research went into the making of this epic work, which will certainly be recognized as a major contribution to McDowell County coal history.

** SHAY # 7 ENGINE NOTE by JERRY KAY JERRY KAY of Portsmouth, VA writes, "This is the Big Sandy & Cumberland narrow gauge Shay # 7 Engine. The BS&C was built to 42 inch gauge. After the N&W purchased the line it was rebuilt to standard gauge, 56.2 inches. The Big Sandy & Cumberland is one of my favorite railroads."
