TRIBUTE TO RONALD A. DUFF

Anita S. Duff helped create this page in honor of the Charley Duff family and as a tribute to her brother, Ronald A. Duff. Anita and Ronald are the children of Oscar and Elizabeth HALE Duff and grandchildren of Charley and Florence FLEURONY Duff. As a child, Ronald, "RON", lived with his family at Maybeury until his parents moved to Charleston, WV. His love for Maybeury and Barlow Hollow remained strong throughout his life. Ron returned to visit the area many times, often bringing sister Anita for the tour.

Ron dreamed of the day he could bring his grandchildren to visit the community and folks he loved so dearly. Fate dashed that dream when Ron was diagnosed with colon cancer. Ron passed away Nov. 27, 2000. He visited Maybeury one last time with sister Anita. He wanted Anita to familiiarize herself with the area in hope that one day she could fulfill his dream of taking his grandchildren on a grand tour of his beloved Maybeury.

ANITA'S MAYBEURY MEMORIES

"I can remember going to visit our grandmother at a tiny little house with a potbelly stove. I can still hear the creak of the rusty door and the laughter that surrounded the house. There was an old coal bin in the yard where we liked to gather and play. Of course we were covered with coal dust in no time at all. I have many wonderful memories from that time. I can still remember the cold bathroom floor on my feet when getting out of my bath. I would laugh and run to get in front of that old coal stove and warm up. I can remember staying at my Aunt Sis's house, (Annie James), which sat right beside the railroad tracks. I loved to feel the rumble of the train before it was ever in sight. The conductor would blow the horn and wave to us as they went sailing past us. What memories!!"
